Ball Handling

At Trimboli Basketball Academy, we believe ball handling is the most important fundamental to becoming a great basketball player. It’s about putting into practice these simple rules over and over again that will make anyone a great ball handler.

The TBA 9 Rules of Ball Handling are the non-negotiables. When these rules are followed consistently, players:

  • Handle defensive pressure with confidence
  • Reduce turnovers and wasted movement
  • Stay balanced, strong, and explosive

Ball handling is the gateway skill. If you can’t handle the ball, nothing else works.

Basketball Essentials

Master the B's

  1.   Below Your Waist
Keeps the ball in a place where your control is maximized
  2. Both Hands
Great basketball players have the ability to dribble with either hand without a falloff
  3. Bend Your Knees
Balance creates power, quickness, and change of direction

Perfect Your P's

  1.   Pads of Your Fingers
Control comes from the finger pads, not the palm
  2. Place the Ball
Every dribble has intent. Placing      the ball where you want it to go is critical.
  3. Protect the Ball
Your body and off arm are the shield.  The ball must stay protected

Smart Play

  1.   Head Straight
Not “Head up” like we’ve heard so many times. Being able to look straight is key.
  2. Under Control
Speed without control leads to turnovers
  3. In Front
The ball stays where you can react, attack, or change direction
